Free AI Image Prompts: step by step

  1. 1

    Find a result you like

Browse the grid by style or theme. You are choosing from finished images, so you already know what the prompt produces before you use it.

  2. 2

    Copy the prompt

One click copies the full prompt text. Nothing is truncated and no account is needed.

  3. 3

    Paste it into your generator

ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion and Adobe Firefly all accept these prompts as written.

  4. 4

Change one clause at a time

Swap the subject, the lighting or the medium to make it yours. Adjusting a single clause per run tells you which words are doing the work.

What makes an AI image prompt work

A prompt that consistently produces good images names four things: the subject, the setting, the lighting, and the medium it is imitating. "A woman in a red coat" leaves all four to chance. "A woman in a scarlet wool coat on a rain-slicked Tokyo street at night, neon reflections, shot on 35mm film, shallow depth of field" fixes them. Every prompt in this library is written that way, which is why they transfer between models instead of only working in the one they were written for.

The same prompt behaves differently in each model

Midjourney leans painterly and will beautify a plain description on its own. DALL·E follows instructions more literally and is the safer choice when the exact arrangement of a scene matters. Gemini is the strongest of the three at rendering readable text inside an image, which makes it the one to reach for on posters, packaging and UI mockups. Stable Diffusion gives you the most control but expects the most specific wording. When a prompt lands differently than you expected, the model is usually the reason — not the prompt.

Editing a prompt instead of starting over

Most disappointing results are fixed by changing one clause, not by rewriting. If the image is too busy, cut adjectives rather than adding "simple". If the lighting is flat, name a real lighting setup — golden hour, softbox, hard rim light. If the subject is off-centre, describe the framing: close-up, wide shot, centred composition. Change one thing per generation so you can tell what actually moved the result.

Frequently asked questions

Are these AI image prompts free?

Yes. Every prompt in the library can be viewed and copied for free, without an account. A free account only adds saved collections and early access to new drops.

Which AI image generator do these prompts work with?

All of them. The prompts are written in plain descriptive language rather than model-specific syntax, so they work in ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion and Adobe Firefly. Results will differ between models because each one interprets style and composition differently.

Can I use the generated images commercially?

The prompt text here is free to use however you like. Whether the resulting image can be used commercially is set by the terms of the generator you run it in, so check the licence for Midjourney, OpenAI, Google or Stability directly.

How do I write my own AI image prompt?

Name the subject, the setting, the lighting and the visual medium you want it to imitate, in that order. Then add one or two specific details rather than a long list of adjectives. Starting from a prompt in this library and editing a single clause is usually faster than writing from scratch.

Why does the same prompt give me a different image?

Image models sample randomly, so the same prompt produces a different image every run. That is expected. Running a prompt three or four times and picking the best result is normal practice, not a sign the prompt is wrong.
